Mysteries of Lisbon Proves a Hit in Toronto
MISTÉRIOS DE LISBOA (The Mysteries of Lisbon) had its world premiere at the Toronto Festival's busiest weekend with a sold out session that ended with an impressive ovation. This was, without doubt, a major triumph for the film that, alongside Clint Eastwood's HEREAFTER and John Carpenter's THE WARD, proved to be one of the important events of the festival.
MISTÉRIOS DE LISBOA had the honour of being the inaugural session of one of the cinemas in the new Festival building, TIFF BELL BOX, which is the most modern cinema complex in the world. At the end of the session, producer Paulo Branco and the actors Ricardo Pereira and Maria João Bastos were present for an interesting round of questions and answers from the audience, which also highlighted the remarkable talent of the film's director, Raul Ruiz.
Once more, Portuguese cinema was represented both at the highest level and at the most important happening in cinema on the American continent.
